Recovery Update

We know the past few days have brought incredible challenges, and we admire your resilience in the face of this unexpected event. While Emily Jorgenson, Matt Basara, and other members of the Kite team have been on-site and in touch, we also want you to have this email address as a direct resource for any questions or support needs as we collectively work toward recovery.

Below is a current situational update, and we will continue to provide periodic emails as efforts at Eastgate Crossing progress.

Completed and In-Progress Efforts

  • Command Center: We have established a 'command center' trailer on-site in the center of the parking lot. Please feel free to visit the trailer at any time with any needs, questions, and to speak with our team in person.

  • Structural Engineer: We have hired a structural engineer to inspect and assess the integrity of all buildings and roofs

  • Water Consultation: A third-party water consultant is formally classifying the water event and conducting moisture mapping. They will also provide remediation protocols and issue Final Clearance Letters to each tenant after work is complete.

  • Restoration: Our contracted restoration company, BluSky, has been on-site since the incident. If you are interested in contracting their services and haven't yet connected with them, please reply to this email and we will coordinate the introduction.

  • Security: Additional security personnel are on-site overnight to monitor and protect the property.

  • Lighting: Temporary lighting towers have been placed in the parking lot to enhance nighttime visibility and safety.

  • Restrooms & Washing Stations: Portable toilets and hand-washing stations have been installed for your use.

  • Dumpsters: Dumpsters have been placed on-site for everyone's utilization.

  • Debris Removal: All flooded vehicles and large debris have been cleared from the parking lot.
Sweepers will be on-site later today to perform more detailed lot clearance

Emergency Repairs & Space Access

The condition of your premises - and those of your neighboring tenants - is extremely important to us.

We remain committed to supporting you throughout the recovery process and will take prompt action when needed to protect the integrity of your space and the property as a whole. As outlined in your lease, we are able to access tenant spaces under emergency circumstances to perform repairs we deem necessary. Please be advised that we will be utilizing this right to move swiftly on essential restoration efforts for the benefit of your space and the entire center. Responsibility for repair costs will be determined based on lease terms, and we will communicate those details as appropriate. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and partnership in this process.

Next Steps

  • Eastgate Crossing Meeting: A meeting was held 7/10, at 3:00pm ET for all Eastgate Crossing businesses and the Kite team.

  • Signage: A signage program is in production to help inform the community of our progress. This includes roadside and window signage, which will be updated over time to reflect the status of individual tenant re-openings.

  • Media: We are in contact with multiple media outlets, and as our recovery progresses, we plan to utilize them to get news of business support and re-openings out to the community. Please let us know if you have any pertinent information you would like shared.

  • Town of Chapel Hill: We are in ongoing contact with the Town of Chapel Hill and Chamber regarding recovery efforts and resources. We will provide all relevant updates as they are

Please do not hesitate to reach out to this email address, Emily, Matt, or any other team member for anything you need. We are relentlessly focused on supporting you and returning Eastgate Crossing to full operation as quickly and safely as possible.
