Electrical Permitting Update

Thank you all for alerting us about the power concerns. After connecting with the Town, they have provided a 'Business Re-Opening Guide' to help expedite the permitting process.

Two key points regarding the Business Re-Opening Guide:

  1. As water levels reached electrical outlets in most spaces, the majority of Eastgate Crossing businesses fall into the second category outlined in the attached Guide.

  2. After clicking on the 'Online Permit Portal' in the second category of the attached, you may select 'Trade Work Only Permit' to apply for an expedited permit focused solely on electrical work. Be sure to include "FLOOD" in your permit description so it receives priority.

The Town has also communicated that they are on high alert and will move to approve permits as quickly as possible

From the Mayor's Office:

"We've streamlined our process to approve permits in a few days and our team is ready to respond as quickly as possible. Our staff developed the attached document that outlines the process for reopening businesses. Businesses that had water reaching electrical outlets are considered to have sustained electrical damage. To restore power, businesses should connect with a licensed electrician to address the electrical problems. The contractor can begin work and would need to obtain a permit within 3 days. The document outlines the permit submission requirements. Our Town team stands ready to approve permits within a few days."

We are continuing to work with the Town on:

  • The possibility of restoring power to the full center simultaneously

  • Opportunities to accelerate approval of the electrical work when complete

  • Understanding how we can expedite Duke Energy's role in the process

If you need help identifying or coordinating with a licensed electrician, just make us aware and we will help connect you.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments regarding the above. We'll continue to push for solutions and efficiencies while keeping you updated. Thank you for your continued collaboration and communication.
